DNS Services

OK, so you live in X and want to watch the BBC, or sign up to beinsports but don't live in those countries, where do you turn to? VPN at least that's what the Internet tells you, hundreds of sites selling you a service to change where you are located. Not only do they promise you this (which they do provide) they also claim that you dont lose alot of your speed - sounds great!
So you head on to the best VPN you have found on the Internet fire it up aaaaannnd..... the BBC site buffers and buffers and so you try a different location in the UK and it works a bit, but then stops. WHY!!! they promised me I wouldn't loose my speeds!!!!

Did they lie? did I do something wrong?
The answer is no, there is ONE real reason VPN's are made for..... security.
And how they do that is by changing your location so that no one can trace back to you (the government can so don't do anything illegal) (and even those VPN services that claim they don't keep logs etc etc.. they do, don't do anything illegal)

So lets say you live in London but dont want people to trace your IP back to you, so you log in to your VPN service and it finds the nearest IP location they have near you, so it gets you for example Swansea. Great you surf protected and your speed doesn't go down so much.
However if you wanted an IP address in lets say Miami the speeds suddenly go really slow. They were not really designed for that kind of job (although they can be used for that).

Which leads us onto the other option DNS, what exactly is a DNS?
here are two quotes to help you understand:

"DNS stands for “domain name system.” Domain names are the human-readable website addresses we use every day. For example, Google’s domain name is google.com. If you want to visit Google, you just need to enter google.com into your web browser’s address bar.
However, your computer doesn’t understand where “google.com” is. Behind the scenes, the Internet and other networks use numerical IP addresses (“Internet protocol” addresses). Google.com is located at the IP address 173.194.39.78 on the Internet. If you typed this number into your web browser’s address bar, you’d also end up at Google’s website.
We use google.com instead of 173.194.39.78 because addresses like google.com are more meaningful and easier for us to remember. DNS is often explained as being like a phone book – like a phone book, DNS matches human-readable names to numbers that machines can more easily understand."

"Domain name system servers match domain names like google.com to their associated IP addresses — 173.194.39.78 in the case of google.com. When you type google.com into your web browser’s address bar, your computer contacts your current DNS server and asks what IP address is associated with google.com. Your computer then connects to the IP address and displays “google.com” in your web browser – the connection to 173.194.39.78 happens behind the scenes.
The DNS servers you use are likely provided by your Internet service provider (“ISP”). If you’re behind a router, your computer is likely using your router as your DNS server, but the router is likely forwarding requests to your Internet service provider’s DNS servers."

( you can read more here at howtogeek.com )

OK, so now we know, humans use names/words, computers use numbers, and they use DNS to match names to numbers easily. depending on where the DNS is based (its gateway location), depends where the site thinks you are accessing it from... without slowing your internet speed.

Great so which DNS service is the best?

here is a roundup of the ones I think are best:

unlocator

unotelly

unblock-us

All three of them have free trials so try one, wait until your trial ends then try the next, etc.

unotelly has 260 channels they geographically unblocked
unlocator has 107 channels they geographically unblocked
unblock-us not specific but much less then the other 2

but it doesn't really make a difference they all unblock all the sites you could need. they just add more random sited you are never going to use just to boost up the numbers.

 Pricing

unblock-us charges $4.99 a month
unotelly charges $4.95 a month
unlocator charges $4.95 a month, $27.50 for 6 months, $49.95 for 12 months.

I would advice you to look up how to set up on the device you want to use it with, as some can be a bit tricky to do.

Devices

Theoretically they all work on every device, however some give better support / guides how to do it.
unotelly and unlocator support all sorts of devices, unblock-us says they support most of them.

IP Changing

DNS needs to know your current IP address in order to tunnel you properly, and depending on how often your ISP changes your IP address you will need to update it on the DNS services site.
This is done through a 'key' the provide you that you can book mark and just click before you go on the site for example, click the bookmark then open netflix.

Who wants to do this every time they want to visit a site? or lets say you want the DNS service on your Roku? how are you going to update it?......

Apps

unlocator has an app for android
unotelly has a third party app for android
unblock-us has a third party app for android

I don't know about iphone for any of them.

What these apps do is automatically or manually update your IP address.

Final conclusion

unblock-us really didn't work so well for me, it took so long to set up on a simple PC, and the app was just OK.

unotelly worked OK the set up was painless but setting up the automatic IP updater didn't, the app was good but is third party.

unlocator was the only one that worked flawlessly and the app worked as well.

But hey, dont trust me try them all out yourselves!!!

Just one final say on DNS Services, some ISP run everything through their servers, meaning the DNS services wont work as your ISP Hijacks your DNS to their own.... again this can be found out by using their free trials.

Livespud Channel 6 HD
Livespud Channel 6 SD

the Livespud Channels are for games that are not shown on the other channels such as BBC or American games. SkySports F1 is normally on Livespud channel 2 or 3.

I would give a 10/10 in this section

How is the layout and ways to view?

The layout is simple you get a main box where the stream is and a tab on the right hand side that slides in and out with all the channels, clicking one will change channels. Simple and easy the only one complaint is that you have to click the tab back in after choosing a channel otherwise you loose some of your viewing screen. I don't know why they couldn't make it slide in by itself.

There is a separate page with the fixtures on although it doesn't link back to the stream page so is easier just clicking through the channels to find the game.

There is a link to view on tablet / phone, although I had no luck in getting it to work.
XBMC is not supported.

I would give a 8/10 in this section

 So does it work?

Yes, I don't think the streams paused once for me. (although I have yet to try it out when a lot of people are using it.)

I would give a 10/10 in this section

How much does it cost?

3 day pass £0.99.
30 day pass £2.49
60 day pass £3.99

I don't think you can find cheaper then this at the moment

I would give a 10/10 in this section

Final say:

This site has everything you need as long as you are happy using PC/laptop only.
Definitely worth using even as a backup as the price is the best you will find at the moment, this is definitely a good site for watching the game

My final rating would have to be a 9.3/10

http://sports1nation.com/

a 'new' site has opened!!

well really its plus1hd they have opened a new site called http://sports1nation.com/ for the new members wanting to join plus1hd. I assume this means that they will no longer be excepting members on their main site.

I can assume (I don't know for sure, as I haven't signed up to it) that it will be the same as plus1hd.

The one thing I have noticed though, the price is in British Pounds not dollars. (£5.99 for 30 days)

More updates hopefully to follow ... and if anyone signs up would love to hear how it is.

Major World Cup Update 2

Most of the world cup games are on bbc or itv.
so if you are in the UK using ITV or the BBC is your best option.

If you are not in the UK you can still use these services by downloading(not really) a add-on for firefox or chrome called Hola unblocker. Hola is an amazing free VPN that works in the background and can be set so that when going on a certain site it will give you a UK IP or one from the USA, or wherever you want.

It is a quick service - I haven't experienced any buffering when streaming from sites such as the BBC.
And I dont need to worry about turning on and off a VPN client.

When I go on BBC my IP changes to the UK, when I go on Netflix it changes to the USA (you can even have different tabs open with different IP addresses.

Check it out. and check out their settings page very helpful as it gives you the most commen pages people choose to change their IP on and a click tick will save it for future.

MAJOR WORLD CUP UPDATE!!!

Ok so I have been enjoying the world cup thanks to plus1hd every match has been on (channel 15 720p, channel 2 and 5 480p).

But decided to go onto footyreport to check out their coverage, and was shocked to find out that not all the games where on!!!
(When they where on they showed them on channel 13)

So if you have footyreport (or anyother site subscription / or haven't but want one) sign up to plus1hd for a month and get all the world cup games.

Sky Sports 5

"Sky today announces good news for millions of its customers ahead of the new football season with confirmation that Sky Sports is to launch the first-ever television channel dedicated to European Football.
Sky customers should visit www.sky.com/2yearsfree on June 12 to activate Sky Sports 5 and register for two years’ free Sky Broadband Unlimited.
Sky Sports 5 will screen up to 600 live European football matches next season featuring some of the best players, the best teams and the best competitions. Sky Sports 5 will be the seventh channel from Sky Sports and will be the home of European Qualifiers, UEFA Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey for Sky Sports viewers, plus a host of other European football programming including Revista De La Liga and Champions League Weekly.
For the first time Sky Sports will also offer exclusively live coverage of Holland’s top division Eredivisie. The new 4-year deal announced today will bring live matches each week to Sky Sports 5, enabling viewers to follow the domestic campaigns of the Netherlands’ top teams including Ajax, Feyenoord, FC Twente and PSV Eindhoven.
Sky customers will be able to register for Sky Sports 5 from June 12 via red button, online and by calling Sky. In a further bonus, Sky Sports customers can also get two years’ free Sky Broadband Unlimited worth £7.50 a month. This, Sky’s best ever broadband offer, means people could save up to £330 – and get the great value of Sky’s totally unlimited broadband with no usage limits and no extra download charges."

The first question is why? no one gives things for free.
OK and the answer is simple...  BT Sports has a contract for the next couple of years to show the champions league and Sky Sports don't, so how do you stop a mass exodus? simple, offer something so that people stay such as live coverage of Holland's top division etc...

Sounds good right? No? Oh you don't have the sky package.
So in that case how does this help you?
The simple answer is we shall see.
Will all the paid sites that stream sky sports also include this channel?
And the reason that some paid sites lost a a few points in my reviews, was because of lack of content compared to other websites.
For example the website footyreport did really amazing on the review but one of my only complaints was that games that where not on Sky Sports, BT Sports and ESPN you couldn't see, however on sites like plus1hd you can.
With this addition (if they add it) it will level the playing field between these services, and make some websites a much better option for some people... Either way we will have to wait and find out.

A Clean Computer

A clean computer is vital, and is even worth spending a bit of money in-order for you not to spend a lot of money when something goes wrong.
(please be advised that although these programs help, they do not insure that nothing will go wrong with your machine)

1. First on the list is an antivirus anti-spam / phishing, firewall, real-time system protection, anti-theft and parental control, (and more) all in one.  This software is required as a backbone for a healthy PC/Laptop. There are many similar software/companies but this one stands well above the other competitions....
Nod Eset Smart Security (Shareware)

2. This software basically fine tunes your computer into a smooth operating machine. It optimizes your system by disabling software (permanently, or when not in use), disables start-up programs which can slow your start time, and general smoothness of your computer. Cleans registry, fragments registry, removes broken shortcuts, and de-fragments hard drive, and plenty more. It cleans disk space - freeing up space and making the computer more responsive.  Then as a really nice bonus it also has a section that solves common problems, such as icons not showing properly or icons disappearing. And can check your drive for errors, and restore deleted files.

TuneUp Utilities (shareware)

3. One of the worst things about browsing on the internet is the pop ups, whether you just want to see what you clicked, without 100 different windows opens up containing Russian brides just for you, or you don't want you or any family member seeing some of the rubbish that is peddled on the internet. However alot of these pop up blockers, block things that you actually want to pop up. For that reason you want a reliable software that blocks what its meant to, and leaves what it should, and in a situation that it doesnt do that is easy to change and fix.

Ad Muncher (shareware)

4. Sometimes you actually don't have anything wrong with your computer but things a crashing or stopping - normally after updating drivers on your computer. For that reason you need a driver updater.

Smart Driver Updater (shareware)

5. This point is a few softwares put together. Each one has a specific purpose and although one of these could do the jobs of the rest, it would be much better getting them all. These softwares are basically cleaners of junk and spyware/adware in different forms.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (freeware/shareware)
Spybot - Search & Destroy (freeware/shareware)
Ad-Aware free antivirus and antispyware (freeware)
ccleaner (freeware)

6. Oh no! you have deleted that really important file? No problem.

Recuver - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery (freeware)

7. Sometimes despite our best efforts our browsers change their search engines or our homepages. And some of use use two or three browsers, so how do you stay on top of all of them? Luckily there is that handy little software.

Auslogics Browser Care (freeware)

http://www.en.aljazeerasport.tv/ and http://www.beinsports.tv/

http://www.en.aljazeerasport.tv/ and http://www.beinsports.tv/

I signed up at these two sites separately but now whenever I go to aljazeerasport website it sends me to beinsport, so looks like they are one and the same.

What do they offer?

Well it really depends. Beinsport works by packages and so depending on what package you get, depends on the channels and the price.

basic sports package:
Ch 7HD
Ch 8HD
Ch 9HD
Ch 10HD
AR Channels
This is most top league games.

Full Sports Package:
Ch 1HD
Ch 2HD
Ch 3HD
Ch 4HD
Ch 5HD
Ch 6HD
Ch 7HD
Ch 8HD
Ch 9HD
Ch 10HD
Ch 11HD
Ch 12HD
Ch 13HD
Ch 14HD
Ch 15HD
AR Channels
EN Channels
FR Channels
ES Channels
(FOX , NBA - depends on the time of year)

I would give a 7/10 in this section

How is the layout and ways to view?

Again this depends, the full Sports Package plays on multi-screens. (T.V, Laptop/PC, Android, Apple devices)
the Basic one doesn't.
Viewing though on Laptop/PC is very nice and clean, a big viewing area and channels listed underneath the stream area.
I did try this service on android and did not have much luck with it, but have been informed that it has been greatly improved since then.
Based on my experiences,

I would give a 9/10 in this section.

So does it work?

Again this ALSO depends. Unless you live in :
Algeria
Bahrain
Chad
Iraq
Jordan
Saudi Arabia
Kuwait
Lebanon
Libya
Mauritania
Morocco
Oman
Palestine (Gaza Strip not Israel)
Qatar
Sudan
Syria
Tunisia
UAE
Yemen
You will have to use a VPN, and so your speeds will only be as good as your VPN Provider.
Hard to really rate this section - but
1. I hate having to rely on a VPN
2. Good VPN Providers cost money

I would give a 6/10 in this section

How much does it cost?

You guessed it - it depends.
1. prices change depending on what country you select
2. prices change depending on the package
3. prices change depending on when you sign up

I believe (if I remember correctly) a Full Sports Package  (a season ticket or 12 months)  is roughly $145
I cant remember how much the basic is.
The main problem with this service is that if you want to watch anything, it has to be in your subscription package or you will have to upgrade. And in order to get the same service as you get from other websites you will have to be paying for the highest package, and then pay for a VPN on top of that.

I would give a 4/10 in this section

Final say:

This is basically the Arab version of skygo. They are a proper legit company. However just like any legit company they feel like they can screw you over, by charging more money for packages that unless you don't support a team, and just want to watch a football game, you will have to get the full package - not that this is necessarily a bad thing though.
The actual one thing that I don't like is that you have to use a VPN.

My final rating would have to be a 5/10

http://www.tvandsportstreams.tv http://www.streamtvbox.com http://www.offsidestreams.com

http://www.tvandsportstreams.tv http://www.streamtvbox.com  http://www.offsidestreams.com

OK these are all different sites but they are basically all the same and since they all have limited membership if one is closed to new members just try one of the other ones.

What do they offer?

forum
channels oh dear do I have to write them all?

THAT'S 154 CHANNELS!!! (OK some of them are the same as EU and us are really the same - but come on that's alot!!!)

And if for some bizarre reason the program you want to watch is not there they will add it for you.

I would give a 10/10 in this section

How is the layout and ways to view?

the layout is pretty clean (from what i can remember - I only used the site once and the rest i used it on XBMC).
As far as I can remember, all the channels were just written down one after the other (I think they did have pictures/logos of the channels as well) clicking one would scroll you down and the stream box would play the channel you clicked.

Android, Iphone - I believe they had an app, will have to look at the site again when I have time

XBMC - Supported

There is no calender or anything just a long list of channels, if you wanted to watch something and don't know what channel it was on, it will take you a while.

I would give a 8/10 in this section

So does it work?

Yes, most channels have at least 2 different streams (EU and US)
I actually don't think the streams paused once for me.

I would give a 10/10 in this section

How much does it cost?

Now you may have been wondering why I have been saying a lot of 'if I can remember' and 'I believe' this is the reason....

It costs £10.99 a month.
Now if you want just sports this is not the service for you.
If you want every channel that exists then £10.99 is nothing.

I would give a 4/10 in this section

Final say:

The choice of channels is unbelievable! However is it worth £11 a month? that depends on what you want, a TV, or a place to watch the footy? The reason I am reviewing these sites is purely for football, and for that I cannot justify the price.

My final rating would have to be a 6.9/10

http://plus1hd.com/

http://plus1hd.com/

 What do they offer?

VOD (video on demand)
forum
chat (on the side of the stream)

21 (not really) channels of HD and SD quality streams.
There are no fixed channels here you will have to check the schedule and see what game is on what channel. or you could just ask in the chat box - similarly if a game is not on the schedule you can ask for it in the chat box as well.

Although this doesn't sound so great they actually show ALOT of games including all premier league, FA, Champions league, Europa League and all that jazz, as well as showing:
La Liga, cricket, collage basketball, NHL, Olympics, snooker, darts, horse racing, NBA, FA youth,Formula 1, boxing, wrestling, rugby, Scottish premier league, MMA, TNA etc... etc... basically if its a sport they are showing it, and if not you can ask for it. (they may say no if all their streamers are used up for other games)

I would give a 10/10 in this section

How is the layout and ways to view?

unlike most other websites they have made the background black, which is really easy on the eyes - especially if you don't want to maximise the the stream to full page.

In the centre is the stream box on the right is the chat, and on the left is the channels.
On the top right is a schedule button - which opens up a new tab so that it doesn't stop your stream.
a video on demand button, a settings and logout button.
All in all a really professional looking simple and clean interface.

Android, iOS, Ipad, and Iphone - (there is an app DON'T download it - it is useless)  the way to watch it on these devices is too get a browser that supports flash properly. I think one browser on Android and puffin on Iphone etc work/
XBMC - not supported

personally I only use it on the webpage but can see it being annoying for people who want to use it on their phones and tablets.

I would give a 8.5/10 in this section

So does it work?

Yes, When you click on a channel a drop down box is shown with 9 different nodes.
This means for each channel there are 9 different streams so the chances of them getting overloaded are rare.

EU node 1: France
EU node 2: Germany
EU node 3: Romania
EU node 4: France
EU node 5: France

US node 1: Dallas
US node 2: California
US node 3: Dallas
US node 4: Dallas

Because of this you can choose a node that is closest to you making it more likely that you will get a smoother viewing experience.
I have found that for 98% of the time I have not experienced any streaming problems rarely does it stop and if it does it is less then a second.
However sometimes a stream will suddenly go, however they will put it up straight away (in 5 to 10 seconds) and if EU node goes down doesn't mean the other nodes go down either,so not such a big deal.   the fun is when a node goes down the chat box heats up and is fun to see everyone's reaction. Even when the entertainment goes down the people provide different entertainment.

Is it watchable 100% yes - I think this site has the best (at the moment) reliability in the streams working basically flawless.

I would give a 9.5/10 in this section

How much does it cost?

24 hour trial - $4.50 USD
30 day pass - $10.99 CAD
90 day pass - $24.99 CAD
180 day pass - $41.99CAD
1 full (package) year - $79.99 CAD
as of now they have stopped these packages (on hold) and you can only get:
30 day pass $10.50

I would give a 6/10 in this section

Final say:

This used to be the best site to go to - and in some ways still is.
the amount of sports you can watch on here is amazing, and the fact that you get different 'nodes' means you will always get a good stream.
However not being able to easily watch this on anything other than a Laptop/PC, is a let down.
And the pricing has changed.
For $80 CAD a year this was the best site XBMC compatible or not. At $10.50 for 30 days (works out roughly $128 dollars a year), making it just a bit expensive for some. If you want this amount of selection/freedom I don't think there is another site better than this one, but if you just want the usual footy there are cheaper options out there.

My final rating would have to be a 8/10

the one thing I have found to be annoying is that if the game you want is on ITV or Eurosport, and not on Sky or BT, this service wont show it. And sometimes this can be major games. However apart from that this is an amazing service.

I would give a 9/10 in this section

How is the layout and ways to view?

The basic layout is a webpage with the stream in the middle channels on the side and button under the stream to change the quality into SD (HD is on automatically)
Underneath that is "Upcoming Events" box which tells you what is going to be shown today and on what channel. The channel is a hyperlink that when clicked switches you to the channel shown, and scrolls you up so that the stream is central, this is a nice touch.

On the right there is a link to view "all upcoming Events" this opens up a new tab which shows a calender of all the games they are showing. First its nice that they have a calender, and its thoughtful that it opens a new tab so that it wont stop the stream you are currently watching.

Under all of that is a section of site updates which tells you of when maintanence is going to take place and what other devices they support or updates etc.

Ps4 and Xbox One - they are working on it
Android and iOS - there is an app
XBMC - Is supported (and is a very nice layout - you can also see calender on XBMC)
Iphone and Ipad - there (apparently) is an app

I have used it on the webpage and XBMC, and on android. all were amazing (apart from from selecting HD channels on android - it will buffer for ages, and you cant tell the difference between HD and SD)

I would give a 10/10 in this section

So does it work?

Yes, however I have no idea where (which country) it is getting streamed from, and there is only one option for each channel. I have watched many a-game with no problems and some times games stop (for only a second) a couple of times in a match. I even have tried streaming at several random times when not that many people would have been on and sometimes it still pauses for a second.

Is it watchable 100% yes... that is the short answer

I would give a 8.5 or 9/10 in this section

How much does it cost?

1 day pass - £2
1 month - £5
2 months - £7
1 year - £27.99

I would give a 10/10 in this section

 Final Say:

This is fantastic site, the cost is second to none. I mean seriously £28 for a YEAR of sports.
Coupled with the fact that it runs on XBMC means that you can watch this on the big screen.
The only minor is that if you want a game that is not on sky or BT you cant really watch it here. I have had to use different services because of this, as it does get a bit annoying. the question you have to ask yourself is what sports/teams you want to watch. Even if you have to go on free sites for those times your team is not on, the price is amazing for what you get the rest of the time.

My final rating would have to be a 9/10

(English) Football!!

OK,

So you wanna watch the game but don't have Sky/BT? or maybe you don't even live in England but love the game.... your stuck right? maybe not, continue reading to find out how you can watch the beautiful game even in HD....

Free options:

there are many places you can stream the game for free but I am not going to get into that, there are plenty of ways to find these sites and you don't need me to tell you where to look.

OK for the sake of this post I'll say two: http://www.wiziwig.tv and http://www.liveonlinetv247.com

now the real reason for this post, the paid ones.

Why would you pay when there are so many free one?
There are many reasons but the two most important ones are:

1. no more searching for a working link.
2.  You finally found a working link, and it goes down or stutters so badly that you want to change streams, but are scared that this is the best one you will find and you will lose it if you change. We all hate it when watching a game and suddenly the stream goes down.
So how do you stop that from happening?
well one is for the streamers (providing you with the link) to get better/more servers and two is not to overload them.

Better/more servers means more cost - that is one of the reasons these services cost money.... maintenance.

There are two ways a service can make sure that their servers are not overloaded.
1. have many different "links" to one game each from a different server.
2. open up multiple sites running from different servers.

So we want a site that charges.

However finding a reliable site that you can pay (am not saying that it is legal) is hard, the companies don't promote themselves (probably because it is illegal) and often you don't know if the site is good until you have signed up.

So I am going to post up the ones I know and write a mini review on them.

(I cant remember all of them at the time of writing and sometimes wont have time to write a mini review at the time, so expect a list of site names that will grow as I remember more of them, and there will be lots of edits to this post adding in sites and reviews.)
